Which tires are best?
The car was designed for the Goodyear 3R tire, so that is the easy answer, and they are very good in the right conditions. However, the 3R has a pronounced warmup period during which it has very little grip, especially on cold days. It also doesn't work well in the wet, and it wears very quickly, so we usually only recommend this tire as an option for advanced drivers. The standard Goodyear 3 and the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S are a little friendlier and more economical. If you are willing to sacrifice a small amount of laptime, the standard Goodyear 3 handles the heat of extended driving sessions well and will be the best option for most people. The PS4S is just slightly slower than the GY3 but is great for beginner drivers. If there is precipitation in the forecast, the car will be supplied on the PS4S. If you are unsure or would like a recommendation based on your goals/experience, please make a note of this when you are booking.
Note: All tire selections are subject to availability.

Which driving mode is best?
Driving mode is highly customizable, but in general putting it in track mode and selecting one of the 5 PTM options will work best for the majority of people. We suggest starting out in PTM Dry or Sport 1, as these retain some level of track oriented stability control. Laptimes will not be much affected, and for some people may even help them be faster. PTM Sport 2 or Race eliminates stability control but retains the track oriented traction management, which will help manage wheelspin on corner exit. These settings will likely result in the fastest laptimes for more advanced drivers, but with some added risk of loss of vehicle control.

Full system off will likely result in slower laptimes for all but the most experience drivers capable of managing power oversteer effectively. Use of full system off will be approved on a case-by-case basis.

Do I need to shift with the paddles?
Only if you want to! Manual and auto modes are both perfectly viable, and they each have their pros and cons. In auto, the transmission shifts up a little faster, and it will never hit the redline. However it will always rev up to redline before it shifts which can lead to some inopportune shifts, e.g. in the middle of a corner. When shifted manually you can eliminate those poor shift timings by short shifting, but with 10 gears it can be challenging to keep track of which gear you are in. For maximum driver engagement we encourage at least trying it in manual mode!

What is the minimum age to drive?
All drivers must be at least 25 years of age and hold a valid drivers license.

Will I still be able to drive if it rains?
Absolutely! As long as the trackday organizer does not shut down the track, you are perfectly welcome to hit the track in the wet! If the forecast is looking wet leading up to your trackday, we will supply the car on an appropriate tire. In the event of unforeseen weather, be aware that track oriented tires such as the Goodyear 3R do not generate much grip at low temperatures and in the wet, so driving speeds will be much reduced and warmup times increased. Use of PTM Wet driving mode is strongly encouraged to improve handling of the vehicle.

Do I need racing experience to drive with Increment Laps?
Nope. We ask for your driving bio so we can provide the best value for your specific experience level. If you have never driven on track, keep in mind that the ZL1 1LE is a VERY fast car and you may not get to experience its full potential while driving in the beginner rungroups. However, it is a safe and easy car to drive, so don't hesitate to make this your first track experience!

Can I split a day with a friend/family member?
It can be very fun to share a car with a friend/family member, so yes of course! There are two ways we can do this:
1. You may divide the sessions of your rungroup as you wish, e.g. you could do half of each session and swap in the hot pits mid-session, or you could each do half of the total sessions (if 6 sessions total, you each do 3). This does require that both drivers are at the same level and can drive in the same rungroup, or the more experienced driver must drive in the less experienced drivers rungroup. There is only a small change to cost for this approach.
2. You may each drive a different rungroup. If sessions run back-to-back we ask that the drivers allow the car 10min to cool between sessions. The price will increase to reflect the increased usage of the vehicle, final pricing to be calculated upon checkout. If running multiple days in this manner it may mandate use of a more durable tire such as the Goodyear 3. Please inquire for more details.

Can I sign up for multiple rungroups to maximize my seat time?
You could, pricing would be calculated the same as in option two above. However, in our experience a standard length trackday is enough for most people, with physical and mental fatigue becoming very real concerns after 3+ hours of driving. Top level endurance drivers train extensively to be able to cope with this type of exertion, so we would typically not recommend it.

Can I give passenger rides?
Depends. Some trackday organizations only allow novice drivers to have an instructor as passenger, may have minimum age limits, or may not allow passengers at all. We do not allow novice drivers to take passengers (less than 5 days experience). If you meet our minimum experience requirement and the trackday organization allows passengers, we will just need all passengers to sign our waiver before riding. Please let us know during the booking process, or as soon as possible after, if you want to bring guests and take them out on track.

Can I do an "open lapping" day?
The ZL1 1LE is a very capable car that can put in hot lap after hot lap, so it would be a shame to completely forbid this type of event. With that said, consumable cost is directly correlated to time on track, so extended days will be accompanied by a pricing increase corresponding to the amount of additional track time. We do also ask that individual sessions not exceed 30min, and cooldown time between sessions is at least equal to session length, ie 30min on track, 30min cooldown before starting next session.

Can I participate in Time Trial competitions?
Yes, we can support Time Trial usage, but we need to know at the time of booking if you would like to participate in a Time Trial.

What are your "home" tracks?
We are based in Orange County, so our home tracks are Buttonwillow Raceway Park, Streets of Willow Springs, and Chuckwalla Valley Raceway.

Is the car available on weekdays?
We understand that some of the best trackdays (least crowded, best value) occur on weekdays. We are open to supporting this type of day at one of our "home" tracks, but by inquiry only.
